The recently approved 2025 construction schedule for Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) includes continued modernization of Terminal 1’s concourses as well as the second phase of runway reconstruction.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission’s (MAC) Board approved $571.5 million in funding for the 2025 Capital Improvement Program (CIP), including several high-profile projects to improve the passenger experience.

The projects demonstrate a commitment to maintaining MSP and expanding airport facilities to meet passenger demand in the years ahead.

Runway pavement reconstruction, new boarding bridges for passenger aircraft, a new ground service equipment maintenance facility and continued work on the iconic folded plate roof at Terminal 1 are all in the mix in 2025.

MSP’s south parallel runway, 12R-30L, will be reconstructed in two phases next summer. Work on the west end of the runway will start in mid-May and run until late June. The work will pause in mid-summer as the heaviest stretch of summer passenger traffic occurs and start up again in mid-August on the east end, finishing near the start of October.

Work on the north expansion of Terminal 2 is already underway. A southern expansion of Terminal 2 is also planned.

The CIP includes $37.5 million for projects at the MAC’s six reliever airports. The St. Paul Downtown Airport will see construction of a new U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility.
