POSITION DESCRIPTION
Baggage System Support Tech
OVERVIEW
The Entry Level Support Technician is responsible for hygiene of the automated baggage handling systems at an airport. This role ensures that all baggage handling equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. This role also monitors and clears baggage obstructions and jams. The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to learn and work under the supervision a machinery maintenance mechanic and a control room operator.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clear and reset jams and faults; when these failures occur, baggage and/or other items may have to be physically moved
- Remove bags/luggage from conveyor belt(s), read bag tags and then sort and transport bags to appropriate piers within the baggage handling area, using a baggage utility cart (at default pier station and/or oversize belts)
- Ensure minimal downtime and disruption to baggage handling operations
- Load baggage or move into conveyor systems when required
- Monitor and communicate baggage system faults
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other airport personnel
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including those set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
- Works with a high degree of responsibility and awareness for the safety practices and standards of an international airport in these and other similar types of tasks
- Drive baggage utility carts in a safe and efficient manner around highly congested and busy bag room
- Read bag/luggage tags and manually encode baggage using a hand scanner and/or bag tag computer touch screen (at manual encoding station)
- Timely completion of assigned tub collection and distribution duties to relieve customer personnel shortages
- Perform cleaning and other duties as assigned or needed
- Learn, under direct supervision, to inspect all BHS equipment for proper operation and performance, including but not limited to, conveyors, lifts, diverters, and automatic tag readers
- May be assigned other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- 18 years of age or older
- Eligible to work in the United States
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Aviation Industry experience a plus
- High attention to detail
- Provide excellent customer service
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, to include documents
- Pass a background check and drug screen
- Ability to use electronic devices including IPads/Tablets, Computers, and Mobile Devices
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Willingness to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Eligibility to acquire needed credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal- as applicable)
- Ability to work any day/shift, including holidays, within a 24/7 operation
- Must possess the versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities
- Must be able to report to work on a regular, consistent, and timely basis; must be prompt and maintain good attendance

Baggage Control Room Operator/Lead

OVERVIEW
The Baggage Control Room Operator/Lead oversees the Baggage Handling System (BHS), ensuring smooth operations by inspecting, clearing blockages, and repairing equipment. Responsibilities include coordinating with staff to uphold service standards, addressing issues like jams and equipment malfunctions, and managing inquiries from stakeholders. Proficiency in control room equipment and software, including Microsoft Windows, BHS monitoring applications, radios, and telephones is required. The role also involves event reporting, startup procedures, and implementing notification and fallback procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Main responsibility; monitor and interact with the BHS (Baggage Handler System) control system the Human Machine Interface or HMI
- Report on BHS alarms/events to inspect, clear blockages/jams, and repair failed equipment as appropriate
- Coordinate personnel and resources to ensure minimum service requirements are maintained
- Coordinate with stakeholders and BHS related inquiries by person/telephone in a courteous and efficient manner
- Control Room Operator shall be attentive of the condition of the entire BHS at all times in order to respond immediately to events and/or possible blockages/events and/or unusual behavior, including but not limited to:
- Jams
- E-Stops
- Faults
- Security
- Equipment malfunction
- Incorrect operation
- Incorrect routing of baggage
- Power outages
- Control Room Operator shall be proficient and trained on proper use of all equipment and interfaces within the BHS control room, including but not limited to:
- Workstations based on Microsoft Windows operating systems
- Customized applications to monitor BHS operations
- Customized applications to monitor and identify baggage routing o Radios
- Telephone systems o Reporting/Recording the schedule of events
- Startup procedures
- Implement call tree notifications based on equipment failures
- Implement fallback procedures in accordance with adopted practices
- Other duties as necessary to support control room operations
- Any other duties as assigned or needed
QUALIFICATIONS

Our Stationary Equipment Supervisor oversees the maintenance and operation of all stationary equipment within the airport facilities. Our HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems throughout the airport's facilities.
