New art on display at Terminal 2
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport recently installed four commissioned pieces of artwork at Terminal 2, all created by Minnesota artists and featuring themes emanating from the state’s natural beauty.
The new artwork captures the colors of the aurora borealis in glass tile, electric color and kinetic sculpture. The Minnesota artists are Danny Saathoff, Philip Noyed and Stacia Goodman.
“The Metropolitan Airport Commission’s (MAC) vision is to provide passengers their best airport experience,” says Brian Ryks, CEO and executive director of the MAC, owner and operator of MSP Airport. “These new installations help us do that by offering an uplifting space where people can connect with Minnesota’s natural beauty.”
A video of the artwork can be seen here.
"Migration" by artist Danny Saathoff features illuminated zeppelin-style airships.
“The Northern Lights have always captivated our imagination,” says Arts @ MSP Director Robyne Robinson. “These spectacular new works are presented in the ideal location – MSP Airport. Where else are we challenged to reach up, to follow and to fly?”
"Aurora Borealis" is a luminous art piece by light artist Philip Noyed.
Complementing the commissioned works is a year-long exhibit of contemporary art, curated by Carolyn Payne, executive director of Soo Visual Arts Gallery in Minneapolis. Housed in a beautifully illuminated 15-foot display case, the exhibit also helps to promote and serve the greater Minnesota arts community.
The exhibit includes works by some of the Twin Cities’ top visual artists, such as Andrea Carlson, Alison Hiltner, Aaron Price, Syed Hosain, Michon Weeks and Terrance Payne.
Arts @ MSP is a collaboration between the Airport Foundation MSP and the Metropolitan Airports Commission.
