Spring break brought thousands of sun-seeking passengers to MSP Airport, leading to one of the busiest months MSP has seen in years.
For Terminal 2, March was its busiest month on record, with 711,612 passengers served, which was almost 14 percent higher than the previous record from July of 2023. Frontier Airlines, Sun Country Airlines and Southwest Airlines all saw substantial increases in passenger loads compared to March of 2023.
On Thursday, March 21, more than 49,000 people passed through TSA checkpoints at both terminals, marking our busiest day so far in 2024. Of the top 20 busiest days at MSP since the start of the pandemic, nine of them have now occurred this year.
Visitors to MSP during spring break enjoyed a long list of performances from Arts@MSP. They were also treated to surprise-and-delight giveaways, and many were part of the excitement of the women’s and men’s Big Ten Conference basketball tournaments in Minneapolis in mid-March.
MSP visitors may notice the new, bright look of the baggage claim level. Two new baggage carousels opened there recently, providing an expansive, modern decor. The entire level has been remodeled. Only one carousel remains under renovation, and that unit is expected to be complete later this summer.
Work is also underway remodeling several concourses at MSP, a partnership between the Metropolitan Airports Commission and Delta Air Lines. If you see construction walls up near your favorite concession, look for signs that point you to your destination. It may be just beyond the wall.
