What time does the airport open?
The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The security checkpoints and ticket counters open at various times. Please check with your specific airline or call MSP's general information line at 612-726-5555 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. to check hours for particular operations.
Which terminal do I need to go to?
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has two full-service terminals: Terminal 1-Lindbergh and Terminal 2-Humphrey. Covered parking is available at both terminals. Because the terminals are located off separate roadways, it is best to know which terminal your airline flies from before arriving at the airport. To determine which terminal your airline uses, please visit our airlines page.
Can I smoke in the terminal buildings?
Both terminal buildings are smoke-free facilities. All smoking, including the use of electronic cigarettes, must take place outdoors. At Terminal 1-Lindbergh, look for smoking shelters outside Doors 1, 3 and 6 on the Ticketing Level. Smoking is also allowed outside on the terminal's Baggage Claim Level and in the parking ramps. At Terminal 2-Humphrey smoking is allowed at curbside, at least 30 feet from any door, and in the parking ramps. If you plan to smoke on a layover, please remember to bring your identification and boarding pass with you, and allow enough time to be re-screened and get to your gate.
What can I bring on the plane/through security?
A current list of restricted and prohibited items can be found on the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) website. Or call the TSA information line toll-free at 866-289-9673.
What are the size and weight limits for carry-on luggage?
The standard carry-on bag size is 45 total inches. To determine your bag's size, measure the width, depth and length and then add those measurements together. Please check with your airline, as they may have stricter carry-on luggage policies. Passengers are generally allowed one piece of carry-on luggage and one smaller item, such as a purse, laptop bag or briefcase.
How do I meet an unaccompanied minor?
Non-ticketed individuals may request a pass from the airline to escort an unaccompanied minor to his or her gate. Please check with the individual airline for the appropriate procedure. It's best to notify the airline that the child is traveling as an "unaccompanied minor" prior to the day of travel.
How can I meet or escort someone to or from their gate?
While generally prohibited, under certain circumstances airline ticket agents may issue gate passes to either escort someone to their gate or meet them at their gate when they arrive. If your party is an unaccompanied minor, in need of assistance because of a medical condition, or on active-duty in the U.S. military, you may request a gate pass from an agent at a ticket counter of the airline on which the passenger is flying. You will need to be screened just as a passenger would. Be sure you have the appropriate identification to show the screeners. Contact your airline if you have additional questions about obtaining a gate pass.
