Bike Patrol Program

Since its inception in May 2001, the bike patrol program has been well received by the traveling public and airport tenants. The officers use specially made police mountain bikes to cruise the parking ramps, airport roads and terminal buildings. The bikes allow quicker response to calls, increased interaction with the public and improved physical fitness for the officers.Image of Bike Patrol Officer on Bike at MSP Aiport Police Badging Office

In addition to directing traffic, during an intense week-long training course, the officers become skilled in maintaining control of the bike at various speeds, night riding, maneuvering through crowds or close quarters, riding up and down stairs, using the bike as a protective shield, falling without getting hurt. They also learn how to conduct traffic stops and fire a weapon from the bike.
